Evelyn Hugo

This week I finished The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo  by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I had a little trepidation because it's so beloved on Tiktok and GoodReads and I tried (twice) and failed to read Reid's other highly popular novel: Daisy Jones and the Six . I am pleased to say I enjoyed this one! I have a lot of feelings about this book and I'm not entirely sure what they are. 😂 I am a character lover. If I love a book it's because I felt for the characters. This book was not that. Evelyn is not very likable, but she's also very magnetic. I think it's really pretty genius of Reid to be able to write in such a way that you're enraptured by a character even if you don't like her or relate to her. This book read like a nice gossip column, but also tackled some pretty big issues.  Evelyn tells her story to a writer named Monique. We get small glimpses into Monique's life. She is going through a divorce and not feeling very fulfilled in her career. Then t...

Write My Name Across the Sky- Barbara O'Neal

A couple of weeks ago when I decided to start a Bookstagram and blog I got tapped into NetGalley to see if I could get any ARCs to try to review new and upcoming titles. This book is the first one I was approved for and ironically it has the latest pub date of any of the titles I've received. But I started it first so here we go! Write My Name Across the Sky is a story about two sisters and their aunt. The aunt, Gloria, is in her 70s and I want to be her  when I get to be her age. She's a former flight attendant who now lives in an apartment in NYC and takes care of a beautiful rooftop garden. I have zero gardening prowess, but maybe I can pick those skills up in the next 40 years...  The two sisters Willow and Sam are as different as night and day. Willow is ethereal and artsy. She plays violin and really feels the power of music. Sam is an analytical brainiac who designs video games. As much as I wish I was more like sweet Willow, I really found myself identifying wit...

Life's too Short-Abby Jimenez

Abby Jimenez has become one of my auto-read authors. The Happy Ever After Playlist was one of my favorite books of 2020 so when I saw this book was coming out I had to have it! This book just released this past Tuesday (4-6-21) so I actually read this one in a timely manner. What's more is I read it in just one day because I didn't want to stop reading it. I am not a super fast reader like a lot of people I follow, so this is something for me. 😅 The story is about Vanessa Price, a YouTube personality and her lawyer neighbor Adrian. Honestly, though I did like both of them, I LOVED  a lot of the side characters. Vanessa's eccentric family, Adrian's assistant and curmudgeonly old dog were just *chef's kiss*. Though this book does have some sad undertones and deals with grief, it was so laugh out loud funny so many times. I read this on my kindle so I was able to highlight the things that made me laugh. My only complaint here was how often the author said the charac...

In a Book Club Far Away

This week I read In a Book Club Far Away  by Tif Marcelo. Purely by coincidence I had started one of the books ( Much Ado About Anne) in the Mother Daughter Book Club series by Heather Vogel Frederick. Both of these books tugged on my heart strings because I have recently been feeling so alone in my reading. It encouraged met to seek out some online book clubs so there will be people out there at least reading the same book as me and wanting to chat! All of that led me to here, wanting to start a blog.  In a Book Club Far Away centers on three women who are all Army spouses: Regina, Adelaide, and Sophie. Adelaide is the character who starts the book club to connect with people at the new base and I really love that it inspires a life long friendship between the characters no matter where they are. At the time of the book club's conception, Adelaide was struggling to get pregnant and felt like the book club gave her a sense of contentment and a life more fulfilled. Regina had ...
