Life's too Short-Abby Jimenez

Abby Jimenez has become one of my auto-read authors. The Happy Ever After Playlist was one of my favorite books of 2020 so when I saw this book was coming out I had to have it! This book just released this past Tuesday (4-6-21) so I actually read this one in a timely manner. What's more is I read it in just one day because I didn't want to stop reading it. I am not a super fast reader like a lot of people I follow, so this is something for me. 😅

The story is about Vanessa Price, a YouTube personality and her lawyer neighbor Adrian. Honestly, though I did like both of them, I LOVED  a lot of the side characters. Vanessa's eccentric family, Adrian's assistant and curmudgeonly old dog were just *chef's kiss*. Though this book does have some sad undertones and deals with grief, it was so laugh out loud funny so many times. I read this on my kindle so I was able to highlight the things that made me laugh. My only complaint here was how often the author said the characters "snorted". Like...you can just say that laughed? Or maybe chortled? I'll snort myself if something catches me off guard, but I don't snort every single time I laugh...the word was overused to me.

**side note: this book is set in Minnesota which is where the author lives and I think it's funny how many Minnesotan books have found me since my best friend moved there. 💖**

The book right now has a 4.49 rating on on Goodreads with a little over 2,000 ratings. I gave this book a 4/5. I would recommend to anyone who enjoys a somewhat predictable (which sometimes I gotta have..anxiety, man) romantic comedy with lovable characters and laugh out loud lines. Maybe you too will snort. 😂

Happy Reading!

Always, in December- Emily Stone

Summary:  It started with a letter. It ended with a love story. Every December, Josie posts a letter from her home in London to the parents she lost on Christmas night many years ago. Each year, she writes the same three words:  Missing you, always.  But this year, her annual trip to the postbox is knocked off course by a bicycle collision with a handsome stranger--a stranger who will change the course of Josie's life.   Josie always thought she was the only one who avoided the Christmas season, but this year, Max has his own reasons for doing the same—and coincidence leads them to spending the holiday together. Aglow with new love, Josie thinks this might be the start of something special.    Only for Max to disappear without saying goodbye.    Over the course of the next year, Max and Josie will find that fate continues to bring them together in places they'd never expect. New York City. Edinburgh. The quiet English countryside. And it turn...

Evelyn Hugo

This week I finished The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo  by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I had a little trepidation because it's so beloved on Tiktok and GoodReads and I tried (twice) and failed to read Reid's other highly popular novel: Daisy Jones and the Six . I am pleased to say I enjoyed this one! I have a lot of feelings about this book and I'm not entirely sure what they are. 😂 I am a character lover. If I love a book it's because I felt for the characters. This book was not that. Evelyn is not very likable, but she's also very magnetic. I think it's really pretty genius of Reid to be able to write in such a way that you're enraptured by a character even if you don't like her or relate to her. This book read like a nice gossip column, but also tackled some pretty big issues.  Evelyn tells her story to a writer named Monique. We get small glimpses into Monique's life. She is going through a divorce and not feeling very fulfilled in her career. Then t...

Finlay Donovan Is Killing It- Elle Cosimano

This book was a hoot. I was lucky enough to get it in from the library after only a couple week's wait. Finlay is a struggling writer who desperately needs to come into some cash. While meeting with her agent at a Panera Bread a woman overhears their conversation and mistakes Finlay to be a hitwoman! She offers Finlay 50,000 to kill her husband. She wouldn't do it, right? Obviously, the book blurb hooked me as soon as I read it. Though at times the book gets a little too coincidental, it is still a fun read. I enjoyed the characters as well and I'm excited there will be a book two coming out next year! Finlay reminded me a little bit of Rebecca Bloomwood ( Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella). Things just "happen" to Becky in hilarious ways a lot.  I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who doesn't take themselves too seriously and is looking for a 'for fun' read. It was a good cleanser to some of the other stuff I have been reading. Not 1...
