Write My Name Across the Sky- Barbara O'Neal

A couple of weeks ago when I decided to start a Bookstagram and blog I got tapped into NetGalley to see if I could get any ARCs to try to review new and upcoming titles. This book is the first one I was approved for and ironically it has the latest pub date of any of the titles I've received. But I started it first so here we go!

Write My Name Across the Sky is a story about two sisters and their aunt. The aunt, Gloria, is in her 70s and I want to be her when I get to be her age. She's a former flight attendant who now lives in an apartment in NYC and takes care of a beautiful rooftop garden. I have zero gardening prowess, but maybe I can pick those skills up in the next 40 years...

The two sisters Willow and Sam are as different as night and day. Willow is ethereal and artsy. She plays violin and really feels the power of music. Sam is an analytical brainiac who designs video games. As much as I wish I was more like sweet Willow, I really found myself identifying with Sam before the end of the novel. You see, their relationship reminded me a bit of my relationship with my own sister. In the book, the girls had lost their mom at a young age (and then were taken care of by their aunt for the most part). My sister and I also lost our mom at a young age. There is a lot of resentment from Sam toward Willow because Willow is musical like their mom was and she is not. It causes Sam to lash out and push Willow and really everyone away and my sister and I have had some pretty similar epic fights.

All in all, I gave this book a 4.5/5. It was a charming and comforting read. When I was nearing the end I thought "I could read a sequel to this" but I will not have to because O'Neal ties everything up at the end. This is the first book I've read by this author but I will definitely check more out! Write My Name Across the Sky comes out on August 10, 2021 and from what it looks like it is going to be available on Kindle Unlimited as well. 😃

{Thank you to Barbara O'Neal, Lake Union Publishing, and NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest opinion.}

Happy Reading!

Always, in December- Emily Stone

Summary:  It started with a letter. It ended with a love story. Every December, Josie posts a letter from her home in London to the parents she lost on Christmas night many years ago. Each year, she writes the same three words:  Missing you, always.  But this year, her annual trip to the postbox is knocked off course by a bicycle collision with a handsome stranger--a stranger who will change the course of Josie's life.   Josie always thought she was the only one who avoided the Christmas season, but this year, Max has his own reasons for doing the same—and coincidence leads them to spending the holiday together. Aglow with new love, Josie thinks this might be the start of something special.    Only for Max to disappear without saying goodbye.    Over the course of the next year, Max and Josie will find that fate continues to bring them together in places they'd never expect. New York City. Edinburgh. The quiet English countryside. And it turn...

Evelyn Hugo

  This week I finished The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo  by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I had a little trepidation because it's so beloved on Tiktok and GoodReads and I tried (twice) and failed to read Reid's other highly popular novel: Daisy Jones and the Six . I am pleased to say I enjoyed this one! I have a lot of feelings about this book and I'm not entirely sure what they are. 😂 I am a character lover. If I love a book it's because I felt for the characters. This book was not that. Evelyn is not very likable, but she's also very magnetic. I think it's really pretty genius of Reid to be able to write in such a way that you're enraptured by a character even if you don't like her or relate to her. This book read like a nice gossip column, but also tackled some pretty big issues.  Evelyn tells her story to a writer named Monique. We get small glimpses into Monique's life. She is going through a divorce and not feeling very fulfilled in her career. Then t...

Finlay Donovan Is Killing It- Elle Cosimano

  This book was a hoot. I was lucky enough to get it in from the library after only a couple week's wait. Finlay is a struggling writer who desperately needs to come into some cash. While meeting with her agent at a Panera Bread a woman overhears their conversation and mistakes Finlay to be a hitwoman! She offers Finlay 50,000 to kill her husband. She wouldn't do it, right? Obviously, the book blurb hooked me as soon as I read it. Though at times the book gets a little too coincidental, it is still a fun read. I enjoyed the characters as well and I'm excited there will be a book two coming out next year! Finlay reminded me a little bit of Rebecca Bloomwood ( Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella). Things just "happen" to Becky in hilarious ways a lot.  I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who doesn't take themselves too seriously and is looking for a 'for fun' read. It was a good cleanser to some of the other stuff I have been reading. Not 1...
