Mid Year Favorites

Hoooooow is it already June?! On my reading challenge I'm at 30/60 books so I figured now was as good a time as any to look over the books I have read so far so I can choose my favorites. Hopefully at the end of the year I'll do this again and narrow it down to my favorite read of 2021! Here's what I've loved reading so far:

The Viscount Who Loved Me- Julia Quinn

    - I have read half of the Bridgerton books now, but so far this (the 2nd) is still my favorite! If I ever re-read any of these books it will be this one.

Single Mum's Book Club- Victoria Cooke

    - This book was so cute!! This was one of the first ARCs that I got through NetGalley and still probably my favorite one of the books I've read. It's hilarious, I laughed out loud several times. It's also endearing and heart warming.

To All the Boys I've Loved Before Series- Jenny Han

-I saw all of the Netflix movies before I read the books so I did picture the Lara Jean from the movies as I read, but I think that's okay because I love her! These books were really sweet. Every now and again I get in a down mood and books like this really help me feel comfortable and cozy.

Jurassic Park- Michael Crichton

    - All the stars!!! This book is amazing! I waited so long to pick it up and now I'm kind of sad that I did. Of course I saw the movie ages ago like everyone else I know, but I'm don't often read the Sci-Fi genre. But for whatever reason last week I just felt the desire to go find the book on my shelf and read it. I read it in just a couple days (which is fast for me). I think I shrieked and threw the book down about three times. This one might be tough to beat for my favorite book of the year.

Always, in December- Emily Stone

Summary:  It started with a letter. It ended with a love story. Every December, Josie posts a letter from her home in London to the parents she lost on Christmas night many years ago. Each year, she writes the same three words:  Missing you, always.  But this year, her annual trip to the postbox is knocked off course by a bicycle collision with a handsome stranger--a stranger who will change the course of Josie's life.   Josie always thought she was the only one who avoided the Christmas season, but this year, Max has his own reasons for doing the same—and coincidence leads them to spending the holiday together. Aglow with new love, Josie thinks this might be the start of something special.    Only for Max to disappear without saying goodbye.    Over the course of the next year, Max and Josie will find that fate continues to bring them together in places they'd never expect. New York City. Edinburgh. The quiet English countryside. And it turn...

Evelyn Hugo

This week I finished The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo  by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I had a little trepidation because it's so beloved on Tiktok and GoodReads and I tried (twice) and failed to read Reid's other highly popular novel: Daisy Jones and the Six . I am pleased to say I enjoyed this one! I have a lot of feelings about this book and I'm not entirely sure what they are. 😂 I am a character lover. If I love a book it's because I felt for the characters. This book was not that. Evelyn is not very likable, but she's also very magnetic. I think it's really pretty genius of Reid to be able to write in such a way that you're enraptured by a character even if you don't like her or relate to her. This book read like a nice gossip column, but also tackled some pretty big issues.  Evelyn tells her story to a writer named Monique. We get small glimpses into Monique's life. She is going through a divorce and not feeling very fulfilled in her career. Then t...

If the Shoe Fits- Julie Murphy

Goodreads summary:  After having just graduated with a degree in shoe design, and trying to get her feet on the ground, Cindy is working for her stepmother, who happens to be the executive producer of America's favorite reality show, Before Midnight. When a spot on the show needs filling ASAP, Cindy volunteers, hoping it might help jump-start her fashion career, or at least give her something to do while her peers land jobs in the world of high fashion. Turns out being the only plus size woman on a reality dating competition makes a splash, and soon Cindy becomes a body positivity icon for women everywhere. What she doesn't expect? That she may just find inspiration—and love—in the process. Ultimately, Cindy learns that if the shoe doesn't fit, maybe it's time to design your own.   Current Goodreads rating: 4.13 My rating: 5 I don't always love a Cinderella retelling. They are always hit or miss for me. This one was definitely a hit! I have always  wanted a story w...
